Fishing with Accommodations

Fishing with Accommodations

Discover Québec's largest natural freshwater lake: Lake Mistassini, Lake Albanel and Lake Waconichi are likewise vast bodies of water with plenty of northern pike, walleye, lake trout, and brook trout.

Catch and possession limits

  • Brook trout:
    • Lake Mistassini, Lake Albanel, and Lake Waconichi: 15 or 5 kg (whichever limit is reached first) + 1 trophy trout
    • Other bodies of water: 15 or 2.5 kg (whichever limit is reached first) + 1 trophy trout
  • Lake trout: 3
  • Northern pike: 8
  • Walleye: 8

The catch limits for some lakes in the Waconichi fishing sector are lower than the provincial limit. For further information, consult the Fishing Plan in the Waconichi Information Guide (DOCUMENTATION section).

The vast stretches of water in Lakes AMW Wildlife Sanctuary belong to a large beaver sanctuary for which the Cree are beneficiaries. Some fish species, such as whitefish and sturgeon, are reserved for Cree communities.

The lakes are so huge and remote that your boat must be over 5 m long and have a motor with at least 25 HP plus an auxiliary motor in case the main motor fails. It is strongly suggested that you fish on your camp's side of the lake to avoid having to cross the lake in bad weather. Make sure you have 2 bailers, 2 oars, a boating safety kit, and the material needed (fibreglass) to make minor repairs to your boat. Warm clothing and raincoats are indispensable since the weather often changes. Always be sure to put your extra clothing and sleeping bag in watertight containers.

Period: June 1st to September 3rd 2018
